Background

The popular Calabogie Peaks Resort is the tallest public ski resort in Ontario located an hour west of Ottawa.
The all-seasons adventure destination features a new cottage real estate development allowing residents to enjoy the resort all year round.

Challenge

At Calabogie Peaks, the existing resort facilities and amenities are expanding and new land is being developed into residential units. The resort requires a drinking water treatment plant (WTP) to service the current and future developments.

Solution

A complete Aslan Packaged Plant was designed and built, incorporating:
• Plant-wide control system
• All instrumentations
• NextSand filtration system
• Softener system with an automatic modulating bypass valve
• Chlorine dosing system for disinfection
• Storage clear well
• Two expandable high lift pump stations to feed the resort and the residential development, each at different elevations.

The solution includes installation, commissioning, operator training and on-going support to provide longterm operational stability.

Results

The Aslan WTP system can provide a service rate of 1,363 LPM (81.8 m3/h)
to the resort and residential development, with a capability for the plant to expand to a service rate of 2,044 LPM (122.6 m3/h) based on the development’s future requirements.
Operators spend 1-2 hours per week at the facility checking system parameters.
The facility was commissioned and turned over to Calabogie Peaks in approximately 7 months, on-time and on-budget, meeting or exceeding all provincial regulations.
