Background

Recycling cooling water used in industrial manufacturing processes has several benefits such as lower water costs and increased production efficiency. A reliable system for recycle loop filtration is essential to protect expensive machinery and to keep maintenance costs to a minimum.

Challenge

A plastic injection factory in Australia was using fresh scheme water during production, which was then being directed to the drainage system on a regular basis. In an effort to save on water costs, two 200 micron screen filters were installed to allow for recycling. However, the filters were not performing as expected and suffered from constant blockages when using recycled water to cool down equipment. The factory decided to explore the option of upgrading the existing filtration system and contacted Amiad for a solution.

Solution

After reviewing the various requirements at the plastic injection factory, Amiad replaced the existing filters with three 3” Mini Sigma filters with 200 micron screens at a flow rate of 20 m3/h each (88 gpm). This allowed the factory to successfully recycle the water and store it in a filtered water tank for later use, thus achieving longer backwash intervals and saving on expensive down-time and maintenance.

Results

The filters are performing to the customer’s satisfaction, and a second system will be purchased in the future.
